welcome to the 50th Ward

The most diverse and wonderful community in the City of Chicago.

Meet Alderman Debra Silverstein

Hello to all my friends and neighbors in the 50th Ward. I am always available and happy to help with any city needs. I hope to hear from you soon!

A Message from Alderman Silverstein

“The 50th Ward is the most diverse and wonderful neighborhood in the City of Chicago. There is nowhere else where you can visit an Indian restaurant, a Kosher bakery, and a Muslim bookstore all within a few blocks. If you live here, you know how great it is. If you don’t, come on up and see what the 50th Ward has to offer!”

I attended a press conference expressing serious concern over the encampments that have popped up at college campuses across the country, including here in Chicago, and the protests that happened yesterday at several CPS schools. Jewish students have the right to feel safe in their schools, and no one ever has the right to bar access to public spaces or harass and threaten classmates. I call on the local colleges and CPS schools to protect their students and enforce school policies that will restore peace and calm. With Alderman Bill Conway, Alderman Raymond Lopez, and Alderman Nicholas Sposato. ... See MoreSee Less

Hate crimes continue to rise to unheard of levels as extremists fan the flames of antisemitism and bigotry across our city and nation. I am grateful to the Chicago Sun-Times for publishing my editorial today shining a light on this frightening reality and discussing legislative ways we can reverse the trend. CHI vs Hate, the new anti-hate crime legislation I passed last year, is only a first step. We need cooperation between law enforcement, elected officials, and public stakeholders to keep all our communities safe. chicago.suntimes.com/other-views/2024/04/25/hate-crimes-acts-antisemitism-racism-rising-what-chic... ...
