I attended a press conference expressing serious concern over the encampments that have popped up at college campuses across the country, including here in Chicago, and the protests that happened yesterday at several CPS schools. Jewish students have the right to feel safe in their schools, and no one ever has the right to bar access to public spaces or harass and threaten classmates. I call on the local colleges and CPS schools to protect their students and enforce school policies that will restore peace and calm. Hate crimes continue to rise to unheard of levels as extremists fan the flames of antisemitism and bigotry across our city and nation. I am grateful to the Chicago Sun-Times for publishing my editorial today shining a light on this frightening reality and discussing legislative ways we can reverse the trend.
